Tearful Moment as Winnie Odinga Cries During Raila Odinga Tribute In Mombasa

EALA MP Winnie Odinga could not hold back her tears during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) 20th-anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.

The event, which marks two decades since the party was founded by her late father, Raila Odinga, turned deeply emotional as members reflected on his legacy.

The celebration was initially postponed when Raila Odinga fell ill, sparking concern among Kenyans about his health.

Following his passing a month ago, the party resumed the three-day anniversary event from November 14 to 16, 2025.

On the second day, a video montage of Raila Odinga was played, highlighting his political journey and memorable moments with ODM supporters.

As the images of her father appeared on the big screen, Winnie Odinga could not control her emotions. The MP was seen crying, while Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho comforted her, placing a reassuring hand on her back.

The touching moment quickly spread on social media, with Kenyans sharing messages of empathy and recalling their own experiences of loss.

Addressing the audience afterward, Winnie explained that her tears were not of pain, but rather a release of emotions she had held back since her father’s death.

“Today, November 15, marks exactly one month since Baba left us. Sitting there, watching the montage, I felt a sense of peace for the first time. The tears I shed are not ones of sorrow—they are a way of letting go and moving forward,” she said.

The emotional display resonated widely among Kenyans, many of whom took to social media to express support. One netizen noted, “Losing a parent is something only those who have experienced it can understand.

Take heart, Winnie. Your father’s legacy lives on.” Another commented,

“The first public event without Baba is overwhelming. It’s hard to feel his presence when he is not physically there. She is incredibly strong.”

The montage reminded attendees of Raila Odinga’s charismatic presence at rallies, where he would often greet supporters with energetic gestures and dance moves.

It was a nostalgic moment, bridging memories of the past with the ongoing efforts to celebrate his life and the party he built.

Winnie also shared that participating in the event gave her a sense of closure and peace, helping her accept the new reality without her father.

She expressed gratitude to the ODM organizers and the party chair for creating a space where she could publicly release her emotions.

In lighter moments, Winnie engaged with supporters, addressing young women who admired her. She promised to respond to them via direct messages, bringing smiles to the crowd after the emotional tribute.
