Pastor Victor Kanyari has once again found himself at the center of public attention, this time over the future of his two children with the late gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Days after an audio recording leaked online in which he appeared to accuse Bayo’s husband, Hiram Gitau also known as Tash, of seeking full custody, the preacher has now taken a softer stand and revealed that he has allowed Tash to remain with the children.
Speaking during a Sunday service in Nairobi on November twenty third, Kanyari opened up about the emotional conversations that followed Bayo’s death.
He said he understood that Tash was grieving and going through a painful season, and that the children might offer him comfort as he navigates the loss of his wife.
According to the preacher, the matter was not worth turning into a fight, and he preferred to take the path of peace.
Kanyari explained that he and Tash had spoken privately after the burial. He shared that whenever the topic of the children came up, Tash would ask who would stay with them.
Kanyari said he told him to take care of them for the time being, adding that he did not want to create scenes or fuel conflict during a moment meant to honor Bayo’s memory.
He stressed that his goal was to remain calm and responsible and avoid a public custody battle.
His remarks drew wide reactions online. Many people praised what they saw as a mature decision, while others questioned why he had chosen to speak about the matter in church.
Some noted that Tash had remained silent since the drama began and admired his quiet approach.
Others encouraged both men to keep their arrangements private and focus on raising the children in a stable and peaceful environment.
During the service, Kanyari also reflected on his history with Bayo. He recalled how they first met when she performed at his church and how their friendship quickly grew into a relationship.
He described her as a remarkable woman and spoke with visible emotion about the life they once shared, though their union eventually ended after the well known scandal that strained their marriage.
In a separate moment earlier, Kanyari had shared a video showing bundles of cash that he said friends and colleagues had given him as condolence support.
The clip spread widely and sparked mixed conversations, with some people celebrating the gesture while others felt uncomfortable with the display.
For now, Kanyari says his focus is on doing what he believes is best for the children and keeping peace as both families continue to heal from their loss.
