A senior member of Raila Odinga’s security team, George Obunda, has issued a strong warning to mourners and political supporters gathering at Raila’s Bondo home, urging them to maintain peace and respect during the mourning period.
Obunda, who has been in charge of security at the Odinga residence for years, spoke firmly as hundreds of mourners continued streaming in to pay their last respects to the late opposition leader.
“Here we are mourning,” Obunda said in a tense address to the crowd. “Those planning to bring disruptions by shouting ‘Ruto must go’ or any political slogans, we will not tolerate that.”
He emphasized that the Bondo compound should remain a place of prayer, reflection, and unit, not political confrontation.
“This is not a rally. It’s a moment of pain. Let us respect Baba one last time,” he added.
According to Obunda, any attempts to turn the mourning into a political stage will be met with strict action by security teams already stationed around the home.
In a moving personal revelation, Obunda said he was deeply saddened by Raila’s death, recalling how the late leader personally helped him join the security profession years ago.
“I owe my career to him,” Obunda said softly. “Raila enrolled me for training and trusted me with his safety. I have protected him ever since. Losing him feels like losing a father.”
Security has been heightened around Raila’s Bondo residence, with officers working round the clock to manage the swelling crowds as thousands of Kenyans continue to arrive to mourn the longtime opposition icon.
