Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has sparked discussions about a potential major political shift ahead of Kenya's 2027 general elections.
Kaluma, through a post on X (formerly Twitter), shared his vision of a powerful political alliance involving Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, North Eastern, and Coast regions.
Notably, his plan excludes the Mt. Kenya region, which has traditionally been a significant player in Kenya’s political landscape.
Kaluma emphasized that despite the diverse political parties in these regions, they would unite to approach the 2027 elections as one formidable bloc.
This move, according to him, aims to reshape Kenya’s political dynamics and bring about a more united front from these regions.
“Although in different Political Parties, Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, North Eastern, and Coast will approach the elections as one political formation,” Kaluma stated.
This statement comes at a time when conversations about new political alignments are gaining momentum across the country.
Analysts believe Kaluma’s proposal could lead to a significant shift in how political power is distributed in Kenya.
In his remarks, Kaluma also directed his attention to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).
While praising Natembeya’s potential as a leader, Kaluma issued a stern warning about the risks of political missteps.
He advised the governor to align with leaders and the people of his region to secure his political future.
“Governor Natembeya is a good man with a great political future ahead of him. He should know that there is nothing like ‘friendly fire’ in politics—all fires kill!
He must align with the people and all leaders of his region or blame himself if his political career is extinguished in 2027,” Kaluma cautioned.
Kaluma’s proposal and comments have stirred speculation about the emergence of a new political coalition, signaling the beginning of strategies for the upcoming elections.
The timing is significant as it follows President William Ruto’s visit to Nyanza, where he received a warm reception despite it being traditionally seen as Raila Odinga’s stronghold.
