BREAKING NEWS: Ruto Names John Cox New Registrar of Political Parties, Makes 11 Other Appointments

President William Ruto has made significant changes in government leadership, touching on political, diplomatic, and human rights offices.

In a gazette notice released on Friday, October 3, Ruto appointed John Cox Lorionokou as the new Registrar of Political Parties (RPP). Cox, who previously worked as a Constituency Elections Coordinator at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), will serve for a six-year term.

Alongside Cox, the President also named Agatha Wahome as the new Assistant Registrar of Political Parties.

Who is John Cox?

Cox has over 15 years of experience in election management, having served in different parts of the country since 2010.

He is a graduate of Maseno University with a degree in Political Science and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Governance and Ethics at Mt. Kenya University.

He has also undergone senior management training at the Kenya School of Government.

He replaces Ann Nderitu, who was recently appointed as a Commissioner at the IEBC after serving as the Registrar of Political Parties since 2018.

Other Appointments

President Ruto also made several ambassadorial and high commission postings. Those picked include:

Anthony Muchiri

Florence Bore

Lucy Kiruthu

Henry Wambuma

Abdirashid Abdille

Joseph Masila

Edwin Afande

Jayne Jepkorir Toroitich

Judy Kiaria Nkumiri

These new envoys are expected to strengthen Kenya’s diplomatic ties and represent the country’s interests abroad.

New Human Rights Commission Chairperson

In the same notice, Ruto appointed Claris Awuor Ogangah as the new Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR). She will serve for six years.

Claris Ogangah replaces the late Roseline Odede, who passed away in January after serving four years at the Commission.

Before her appointment, Ogangah worked with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights as a Deputy Country Representative and Human Rights Specialist.

The appointments come only weeks after the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments vetted and approved the nominees. This clears the way for them to assume their new offices immediately.
