Violet Mokobi Nyabicha: Photo Of Rongo First-Year University Student Found Dead in Hostel Room

Violet, who had recently joined the university to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics, was discovered unconscious in her hostel room.

She was rushed to a nearby health facility, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

In a statement shared by the Dean of Students, the institution described Violet’s passing as a painful and unexpected loss.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden death of Violet Mokobi Nyabicha, which occurred on Friday, September 25. She was a first-year student in the School of Arts, Social Sciences, and Business.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and classmates during this difficult time,” read part of the memo.

The university also revealed more about her background. Violet was born on July 9, 2006, to Jackson Orondo Nyabicho Migiro and Annah Nyamusi, in Botore village, Ogembo location, Kisii County.

She attended St Anne’s Nyangoge Girls Secondary School between 2021 and 2024 before securing admission to Rongo University.

Her body is currently preserved at Rosewood Hospital Mortuary in Rongo Town, as the family and institution coordinate burial arrangements.

News of Violet’s death quickly spread across social media, with friends, classmates, and members of the public expressing shock and sadness.

Many described her as a bright, beautiful, and promising young woman whose future had been cut short.

One mourner wrote, “Rest in power, Vio. We shall meet again on that beautiful morning.”

Another commented, “So painful to lose such a young soul. May she rest in eternal peace.”

The sudden death also sparked concern among some netizens, who questioned the increasing number of deaths reported in universities across the country.
