Painful: Kisumu Woman Pours Kerosene On 12-Year-Old Son, Sets Fire On Him For Stealing Her Ksh 150

A shocking incident in Kisumu County has left residents of Nyamgun village in Seme sub-county in disbelief after a 12-year-old boy died from severe burn injuries allegedly inflicted by his own mother.

According to police, the boy, only identified as B.O., succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at Kombewa County Hospital.

Reports indicate that he had suffered more than 90 percent burns on his upper body, hands, and groin.

The tragic events unfolded on Monday night after an argument between the boy and his mother.

Investigations suggest that the 47-year-old woman accused her son of stealing Sh150. The confrontation escalated, and she allegedly poured kerosene on him before setting him on fire.

Neighbours who heard the boy’s screams rushed to the homestead and managed to put out the flames.

They quickly took him to Kombewa County Hospital, where medical staff fought to save his life. Sadly, his injuries were too extensive, and he passed away hours later.

Detectives from Kombewa Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Seme visited the hospital and the family home.

At the scene, they recovered a partially burnt blue T-shirt belonging to the victim, which is being held as evidence.

Police revealed that the deceased had been accused of petty theft on several occasions, which may have fueled tension between him and his mother.

However, authorities condemned the mother’s violent actions, describing them as extreme and unacceptable.

The suspect was arrested and is currently being held at Kombewa Police Station. She is expected to appear in court to face charges related to the boy’s death.

Meanwhile, the body of the young victim has been moved to the Kombewa County Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to aid further investigations.
