Morgue Attendant Heartbroken As Handwritten Note Fall From Pocket of Dead Man taken To The Mortuary

A story shared by a morgue attendant has left Kenyans reflecting on the fleeting nature of life.

The worker revealed that while receiving the body of a man brought into the mortuary, a handwritten note slipped from his pocket.

What seemed like a casual reminder of daily errands has now turned into a painful symbol of life’s unpredictability.

The short message listed two common household items — sugar and petroleum jelly — with a total of KSh 250 noted beside them.

It was the kind of list anyone might make before stepping out to run errands.

But for the man, it became his final record, a sign of unfinished plans that death cut short.

According to the attendant, the discovery struck him deeply.

“When he wrote this, he had hopes for the day. He never thought it would be his last,” he said, pointing out how quickly life can change.

The story spread widely online and captured the attention of Kenyans from all walks of life.

Many expressed sadness, saying the note reminded them of sudden losses in their own lives.

Others shared personal accounts of relatives and friends who had died unexpectedly, leaving behind unfulfilled promises and ordinary tasks that would never be completed.

One person recalled arriving for a morning class only to learn that their teacher, who had been alive and well days earlier, had passed away overnight.

Another shared memories of a mother who died suddenly after a simple request for a meal, leaving the family in shock.

Messages flooded social media with Kenyans urging one another to value the time they have, avoid unnecessary quarrels, and cherish family bonds.

The note, though ordinary, became a collective wake-up call.

“We spend so much time chasing things, forgetting how fragile life really is,” one comment read.

The incident has also shone a light on the role of morgue workers, who often witness emotional scenes and occasionally uncover stories that touch society at large.

In this case, a simple slip of paper carried a message that words could hardly express: tomorrow is never guaranteed.
