A family in Maai Mahiu is mourning the brutal death of 29-year-old Naomi Wangari, a hotel operator and mother of two, who was found murdered in what is suspected to be a love triangle.
Wangari went missing on August 23, 2025, after receiving a brief phone call while having supper with her children in Mlolongo.
She told them she would be back shortly but never returned.
Her father, Elisha Mburu, reported her disappearance to police after relatives failed to trace her despite searching hospitals and police stations and posting appeals on social media.
For two weeks, the family held on to hope before their worst fears were confirmed.
According to neighbour John Ngugi, a mortuary attendant at Nairobi Funeral Home alerted the family after a body matching Wangari’s description was brought in.
She had been killed in what investigators believe was a planned attack.
Ngugi explained that the brutal murder had been disguised to look like a road accident, saying Wangari had been dragged to the road and run over by an unknown vehicle.
Shock deepened when it was revealed that Wangari was killed together with her new boyfriend, whom she had started dating after ending a previous relationship.
The family suspects her death may have been the result of a jealous ex-lover.
Ngugi added that they suspected it was a case of a love triangle, but investigators had remained silent.
As villagers troop to the Mburu homestead to console the family, burial preparations have begun.
Meanwhile, relatives are urging police to speed up investigations and bring those responsible to justice.
