Over 20 Kisii MCAs boycotted a State House meeting with President William Ruto, saying it had no real development agenda and was meant to politically undermine former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, who is eyeing the 2027 presidency.
Led by Wilfred Monyenye and Dennis Ombachi, the MCAs accused Governor Simba Arati of taking a delegation to Nairobi for political showmanship, insisting that the Gusii community’s votes already belong to Matiang’i.
This comes after President Ruto had invited MCAs from Kisii and Nyamira counties to State House on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Click here.
However Kisii Governor Simba Arati, some of the MCAs attended the meeting, but others including Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo stayed away.
Speaking in Kisii Town as the meeting was ongoing, the MCAs said the trip led by Governor Arati had no meaningful development agenda but was instead a political scheme to undermine former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.
Dr. Matiang’i has announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 General Election.
The MCAs said that since Dr. Matiang’i is their preferred presidential candidate, they would not set foot in State House because doing so would amount to betraying the community that has endorsed him for the top seat.
They criticized Ruto for repeatedly inviting Kisii leaders without fulfilling past promises, urging him to stop seeking Gusii votes.
Some MCAs also demanded that Governor Arati first pay pending county contractors before seeking more development projects from the national government.
“Just recently, over 6,000 people from our region were taken by his allies claiming they were going to secure development projects. If the aim of that meeting was really development, why call another one so soon?” Mr. Monyenye asked.
He used the opportunity to tell Dr. Ruto not to expect votes from the Gusii community, saying those votes already belong to Dr. Matiang’i.
Mr. Monyenye’s remarks were supported by nominated MCA Bathseba Sanaya, who said Dr. Matiang’i is the best choice for president because he is accepted by other communities. She urged the Abagusii community to fully support him.
Boochi Tendere MCA James Ondari Paradiso said it is clear that President Ruto has failed to deliver for Kenyans, and therefore they will seek a different option in 2027.
