According to reports seen by KTN News, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has emerged as the proposed presidential flagbearer for the United Opposition, a coalition of prominent leaders seeking to unseat President William Ruto.
The document outlines a tentative power-sharing structure involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, former Justice Minister Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Speaker Justin Muturi, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Kalonzo, who has contested for the presidency multiple times, is said to have earned consensus among opposition principals due to his seniority, loyalty, and experience in both government and opposition.
However, the choice of his running mate remains undecided, with Matiang’i, Wamalwa, and Natembeya floated as the top contenders.
In this proposed arrangement, Gachagua would retain a powerful role as Prime Cabinet Secretary, keeping him at the heart of power despite stepping aside from presidential ambitions.
According to analysts, his presence is key to delivering the Mt. Kenya vote and ensuring internal unity within the coalition.
Karua is being considered for the Speaker of the National Assembly, while Muturi may return as Attorney General, a post he briefly held under the Kenya Kwanza government.
Should Natembeya not make it to the national ticket, he is expected to seek re-election as governor or take over a powerful Cabinet post, possibly heading the Interior Ministry.
Political analysts like Gitile Naituli believe the lineup, if implemented without infighting, could pose a real threat to President Ruto.
“The opposition must avoid internal competition. A united front with Kalonzo and Gachagua working together could send shockwaves across the country,” he said.
However, cracks are already emerging, with Saboti MP Caleb Amisi dismissing the alliance as recycled leadership.
“You can’t liberate Kenya with people who’ve been part of the system for decades,” he said.

Meanwhile, ODM leader Raila Odinga has indicated willingness to support Kalonzo, but insists no formal request has been made. Whether the opposition can maintain unity until 2027 remains to be seen.
