The footage, widely shared on social media, shows hundreds of pupils across multiple schools seemingly forced to pray, with some head teachers directing learners to follow the practice. Other clips captured pupils in secluded areas complying with the directive.
Following a meeting with the County Education Team, Kilifi County Commissioner Josephat Kibiwott ordered the immediate suspension of the Krishna Children’s Foundation’s food programme.
“Tumesimamisha hiyo Krishna Children’s Foundation from supplying food to our schools because tuliona sio nzuri. Kama unataka kusaidia, saidia kwa njia mzuri…sio kulazimisha wanafunzi wafanye mambo ambayo sio nzuri vile mumeona kwa hizo video clips,” Kibiwott said. He added that the organization had been operating without proper disclosure to education officials.
Authorities have also confiscated Hindu materials from the affected schools as investigations continue.
The suspension raises concerns about the welfare of hundreds of pupils in drought-stricken Ganze, who rely on these meals for daily sustenance. Education officials are now exploring alternative ways to provide food without subjecting students to religious practices.
