Gachagua Suffers Another Blow as Former Ally Turns Against Him, Warns Ruto Could Win in 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has suffered a significant political blow after one of his most trusted former allies, Kimani Ngunjiri, openly criticized him and distanced himself from the Wamunyoro political camp.

Speaking recently during a public gathering, the former Bahati MP accused Gachagua of being driven by personal bitterness following his fallout with President William Ruto.

Ngunjiri accused Gachagua saying he is among the best propagandists in Kenya currently. He said the former DP is just a bitter person who is full of anger against President Ruto, warning that he should not pass on that bitterness to the rest of the country.

"Gachagua is among the best propagandists in Kenya currently. Gachagua is just a bitter propagandist if you see what he is currently talking about. He is so bitter and he should not bring us his bitterness against Ruto because as a country, we are bigger than all those things," stated Kimani Ngunjiri.

Ngunjiri further warned that Gachagua's continued push for the “Ruto Must Go” campaign could damage his own political standing. He said this will turn against him and that by 2027, Kenyans could start symp[athizing with Ruto if Gachagua continues with the slogan

“If he continues with that message, he will lose. His party might also start losing support, and by 2027, people could even start feeling sorry for Ruto instead,” he added.

HON. KIMANI NGUNJIRI 12/05/2025"

Ngunjiri’s comments mark a sharp turnaround from his earlier support. In 2024, during Gachagua’s impeachment proceedings in the Senate, Ngunjiri stood firmly by his side.

He was even seen in tears at Karen Hospital when Gachagua was admitted during a difficult phase of the hearings. He was even quoted attacking Ruto's government warning that Gachagua's impeachment was coming back to haunt him in 2027

Since then, however, their political paths have diverged. Ngunjiri joins a growing list of former close allies, including Gathoni Wamuchomba, Mary Wamaua, and Ngunjiri Wambugu, who have gradually stepped away from Gachagua’s camp.
