Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, a close ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has hinted at a possible covert alliance between former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto.
Speaking over the weekend during a radio interview, Kioni alleged that Gachagua revealed to a small group of leaders, including pastors, that Ruto had already sent emissaries to start political negotiations.
The meeting, which Kioni said took place in Gachagua’s office with around 15 attendees, reportedly involved discussions on vote-sharing and power distribution in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
“He admitted that Ruto’s team was mobilizing their bases and that they had agreed to meet later to divide the political cake,” Kioni claimed.
“I have no reason to doubt what was said, as multiple witnesses, including pastors, confirmed it.”
According to Kioni, Gachagua outlined projected votes from Mt. Kenya, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and former CS Fred Matiang’i, indicating a possible strategy to secure a commanding advantage.
Gachagua allegedly assured Narok Township MCA aspirant Joshua Ole Kaputa that he would eventually be nominated, despite initially being denied a party ticket.
“I’ll give the Maasai community their share when the time comes,” he reportedly said.
Kioni warned that such backroom dealings could deepen divisions within the opposition, which is yet to settle on a joint presidential candidate for 2027.
He emphasized that Jubilee seeks partnerships only with like-minded parties committed to removing Ruto from office, rejecting transactional politics focused on vote-swapping.
Gachagua, who has openly criticized Ruto’s administration while championing the ‘Wantam’ slogan advocating a single term for the president, may complicate opposition unity as the political landscape shifts toward the next general election.
