"Wheelbarrow Imekua Scrap" Machogu Laughs Off Ruto’s Govt, Backs This Leader For 2027 Presidency

Former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has openly criticized President William Ruto’s government and declared his support for Fred Matiang’i’s 2027 presidential bid.

Machogu, who once served in Ruto’s Cabinet, said the current government has failed to deliver on promises made to the Gusii community.

Speaking at a gathering in Nyamira County, Machogu called on his people to stop supporting Ruto in the upcoming elections. He said Ruto’s promises were empty and that many projects never started.

“Wheelbarrow imekua scrap,” Machogu said, using a local phrase meaning the government’s efforts have become useless.

“We asked Ruto to bring development here. He promised a factory, a dam, and an industrial park, but nothing has happened.”

Machogu said that while he was a Cabinet Secretary, he worked hard to bring real change to the Gusii region.

He said he helped secure 1.9 billion shillings for school projects and pushed for real empowerment instead of small handouts.

“Giving 64 shillings is not empowerment; it is like laughing at our people,” he said, referring to some of the government’s small cash handouts.

He also pointed out that Ruto promised 500 million shillings for a university in Nyamira County, but that project has not started.

Machogu praised Fred Matiang’i, a fellow Gusii, for his leadership and asked the community to support his presidential campaign.

“I will use my networks to campaign for Matiang’i. Kenya has decided it is one term for Ruto,” Machogu said confidently.

Matiang’i’s presidential bid has gained attention but also faces challenges. The Jubilee Party had initially endorsed him, but there are rumors that former President Uhuru Kenyatta might support Raila Odinga instead.

Raila and Ruto have said they will work together until 2027 but have not confirmed their plans beyond that.
