NEWS JUST IN: Multiple Feared Dead After Bus Collides With Trailer on Kisumu–Busia Highway

On Monday, August 11, 2025, a serious accident happened on the Kisumu-Busia highway near Lela in Maseno.

A Royal Liner bus collided with a flatbed trailer that was trying to overtake it at a sharp corner. A fuel tanker was also involved in the crash.

The driver’s side of the bus was badly damaged in the crash. Photos and videos from the scene show the bus wrecked and rescue teams working hard to help injured passengers.

Police officers and other first responders were at the scene controlling the crowd and assisting with rescue efforts.

Many people were hurt in the accident, and some are feared dead, although the exact numbers are still unknown. The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.

This crash happened just one day after another accident involving a bus. The ENA Coach bus was hit from behind by a trailer that lost its brakes near Mai Mahiu. That crash led to two deaths, including a child.

In a similar tragedy last week, a school bus carrying mourners overturned at the Coptic Roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway.

Twenty-one people died at the scene, and the number has now risen to 26 after some injured victims died in hospital.

Preliminary reports say the driver of the Royal Liner bus may have lost control before the crash. The trailer’s dangerous overtaking was also a major cause.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the National Police Service (NPS) have promised a full investigation into the accident.
