"Enough Is Enough" Ichung’wah, Other MPs Clashes With Ruto, Warns Him Of Possible Impeachment

Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has expressed his anger at the President’s remarks about a “bribery parliament.”

MPs led by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu) and Minority Leader Junet Mohamed (Suna East), appearing fed up with what they termed humiliation from State House, fired back during an afternoon sitting, saying the national government was losing direction.

“We have men and women elected by the people to represent their interests and hold government accountable on their behalf,” said Mr. Ichung’wah.

“When we exercise oversight over government, we do not do it selectively. It is not on behalf of the President nor the Judiciary,” he added.

In addition , he urged MPs not to be intimidated by the President’s remarks.

“This Parliament has the authority to remove anyone from office in government, but no one in government has the authority to remove you. I am deeply hurt by these corruption allegations,” Ichung’wah said.

His remarks comes just hours after President William Ruto launched a task force to fight entrenched corruption in the public sector, while continuing to accuse Parliament of bribery.
During a Kenya Kwanza–ODM parliamentary group meeting held on August 18, 2025, President Ruto accused MPs of engaging in corruption by demanding bribes to ask questions, table motions, amend bills, or issue favorable reports to those appearing before parliamentary committees.

The President had alleged during the parliamentary group meeting that some MPs were demanding up to KSh150 million from those appearing before them, claiming the money came from county government funds.
