"Don't Expect Our Support in 2027, We May Seek Your Backing Instead" - MP Millie Odhiambo Tells Ruto

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has sent a strong message to President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at a public event on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Millie said it is not guaranteed that ODM will support President Ruto again in the next elections.

She said that although ODM agreed to join the broad-based government to help stabilize the country, it does not mean they must support Ruto in 2027.

According to her, political talks can go in many directions, and even President Ruto could be asked to support ODM leader Raila Odinga instead.

“We agreed to join the broad-based government for the sake of peace and unity until 2027. But it is not automatic that we will support Ruto in the next elections. We may even ask Ruto to support Raila,” Millie said.

Millie also defended Raila Odinga’s decision to work with Ruto, saying he made the right choice to move the country forward.

She reminded critics that Raila had gone through dangerous situations and made a wise decision to prevent chaos in the country.

“I watched Raila almost lose his life. So if he chose peace over protests, no one should blame him,” she added.

Her comments come at a time when questions are being raised about the future of the broad-based government. The coalition was created in 2024 after massive youth-led protests pushed the government and opposition to work together.

Recently, Raila Odinga also spoke at an ODM delegates’ meeting in Kakamega. He confirmed that ODM will stick with the agreement until 2027. After that, new discussions will take place to decide the way forward.

While opposition leaders are debating future alliances, Ruto’s allies are already preparing for his re-election. Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei recently praised the president’s leadership and predicted his victory in 2027.

The political scene is heating up as Kenya prepares for another election. Though two years away, many leaders are already laying the groundwork for the next big political battle.

Millie Odhiambo’s words have reminded Kenyans that in politics, nothing is permanent — alliances can change, and new deals can be made.
