A week ago, Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna maintained that he would not sign any agreement between ODM and UDA to pave the way for President Ruto to secure a second term.
The ODM party secretary general has been defiant lately, to the point of joining a new movement called Kenya Moja (“One Kenya”), which brings together young politicians from across the political divide.
According to some reports, the movement is expected to participate in fundraising initiatives to support women’s and youth groups across the country.
Sources also indicate that Mr. Sifuna is planning to vie for the Westlands parliamentary seat in Nairobi in 2027, after Tim Wanyonyi shifts his political base to Bungoma, where he aims to contest the governorship.
And according to political analyst Javas Bigambo, it is clear that Raila’s allies have succeeded in sidelining Mr. Sifuna within ODM, and he must now look for another way to survive politically.
“ODM is what gave Sifuna his name, and he seems overwhelmed—especially after Raila’s statement showed that his stance against the Inclusive Government no longer holds weight. He will find it very difficult to survive in city politics, given that Raila has significant influence in Nairobi politics,” said Mr. Bigambo.
