Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified the country’s early 2027 political contest after publicly declaring that he will personally confront President William Ruto while assigning his close ally John Methu to politically challenge Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki.
The remarks, made on May 13, 2026, have sparked fresh debate about the growing rivalry within Kenya’s political landscape and the increasingly confrontational tone emerging ahead of the next General Election.
“I have told Methu to handle Kindiki. He is capable of dealing with him. I will handle Ruto,” Gachagua declared while addressing supporters.
His statement immediately drew reactions from political observers, many of whom interpreted it as a sign that the former deputy president is preparing for a prolonged political battle against the Kenya Kwanza leadership following his fallout with the administration.
