The incident, which happened around midnight, involved two men and two women who were found carrying items such as small gourds, red pieces of cloth, and ash.
These items are believed by locals to be tools of witchcraft.
Curious villagers, who had noticed unusual movements around the compound, surrounded the group before they could flee.
The four were ordered to explain what they were doing, but according to witnesses, none of them could give a clear answer.
Videos shared online show the suspects seated on the ground with visible injuries, apparently after being roughed up by angry residents.
In the video, voices can be heard demanding that the group confess what they were doing, while others threatened to burn them if they refused to speak.
Fortunately, police officers arrived just in time to rescue the four from the mob. They were taken to a nearby police station for questioning as investigations into their actions and motives began.
