The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall expected across eight regions in the country this weekend.
The forecast, released on Friday, cautions residents to prepare for intense downpours that could lead to flooding, poor visibility, and disruptions to transport and daily activities.
According to the department, the regions expected to experience significant rainfall include the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Central Highlands, parts of Nairobi, Southeastern lowlands, Coast region, Northeastern Kenya, and sections of Western Kenya.
The rains are projected to begin on Saturday and persist through Sunday, with some areas likely to record above-average precipitation levels.
Meteorologists have attributed the anticipated weather conditions to the continued influence of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which is currently active over the country.
This seasonal weather pattern often brings enhanced rainfall, especially during the long rains period, which typically runs from March to May.
Residents living in flood-prone areas have been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures. The weather agency has advised against attempting to cross flooded rivers or walking through fast-moving water, as this poses serious risks.
Motorists have also been cautioned to exercise care on the roads due to reduced visibility and slippery conditions.
County disaster management teams have been placed on alert, particularly in regions that have previously experienced flooding and landslides.
In urban areas such as Nairobi, drainage systems are expected to be tested as heavy rains could lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying estates.
Farmers, however, are likely to benefit from the rains, as the downpour is expected to support crop growth during this crucial planting season.
Agricultural experts are encouraging farmers to take advantage of the moisture but also to ensure proper drainage in their farms to avoid waterlogging.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates.
Kenyans are encouraged to stay informed through official weather channels and heed all safety advisories issued by authorities during this period of heavy rainfall.
