Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has raised sharp questions over remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following the death of Kipsigis MP Joana Ng’eno.
Speaking during a televised discussion, Ngunyi pointed to the sequence of events leading up to the lawmaker’s death in a helicopter crash.
He recalled that on February 23, Gachagua publicly declared that he would take political leadership of the Kipsigis community. Days later, on February 28, Ng’eno died in the crash.
Ngunyi questioned how Gachagua appeared to have information about the tragedy before official confirmation was made public.
He argued that the timing of statements and the speed at which news of the death was shared had sparked concern among observers.
According to him, such circumstances demand clear answers to dispel suspicion and restore public trust.
The analyst did not present evidence linking Gachagua to the incident but maintained that leaders must be ready to address difficult questions when events of national interest occur.
He said transparency is essential, particularly when the loss involves an elected representative.
Gachagua has not issued a response to the claims raised by Ngunyi. Meanwhile, investigations into the helicopter crash are expected to provide clarity on what led to the fatal incident.
