The East African gospel music scene is in deep sorrow following the sudden passing of Tanzanian singer Irene Robert, who died on March 20, just weeks before her scheduled wedding.

Images of the young artiste have since appeared online, showing moments of happiness ahead of what was expected to be a major event in her life.

Her death has left fans and fellow performers devastated.

Irene was celebrated for her strong voice and uplifting songs such as Soja, Moyo Dawa, Nahesabu and Bingwa.

She had also collaborated with top gospel figures in the region, including Rose Muhando, Guardian Angel and Christina Shusho.

Her close friend and fellow gospel musician Walter Chilambo opened up about her final moments, disclosing that they had recently discussed her upcoming wedding set for May.

He said Irene had requested him to serve as the best man for her fiancé.

Walter paid tribute to Irene as a dear friend and appreciated her life and ministry.

He recounted that during their last conversation, she had asked him to compose a song for her, which became her final track titled Neno Moja.

He mentioned that she had been cheerful at the time, making her sudden passing more heartbreaking.

He added that Irene left behind her fiancé Brian and had earlier chosen him as the best man for their planned wedding in May.

Walter also disclosed that Irene had spent several hours praying on the night before her death, after which she went to sleep and did not wake up.

Her death has led to an outpouring of condolences online, with many praising her faith, talent and commitment to gospel music.
