Tension surrounded the opening of the Kahuro Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) offices in Kiharu Constituency after police officers allegedly attempted to disrupt the ceremony presided over by Ndindi Nyoro on Monday, March 9.
The event, which attracted residents from different parts of Kahuro, was meant to mark the commissioning of the new administrative offices funded through the Constituency Development Fund.
However, the ceremony quickly turned into a confrontation after local administrators failed to attend and police officers appeared at the venue.
Sources within the area indicated that chiefs and other administrators who were expected to take over the offices did not show up. They reportedly stayed away after receiving instructions from senior government officials.
Despite the absence of the administrators, Nyoro proceeded with the event. A brief standoff occurred when police officers attempted to stop the ceremony.
Residents who had gathered for the launch confronted the officers and demanded that the event continue. The officers eventually left the venue as the crowd stood its ground.
Speaking after the incident, Nyoro strongly criticized the attempt to interfere with the launch. He directed his remarks at individuals he believes ordered the police action.
The Kiharu legislator said anyone responsible for sending officers to disrupt the ceremony should personally come to the ground instead of using security agencies. He challenged the unnamed official to confront him directly.
He warned that those behind the move should not mistake his calm approach for weakness. According to Nyoro, development work in his constituency will continue regardless of political pressure or intimidation.
