'Blow To Top Govt Official As Parliament Rejects His Sh 1billion Proposal To Renovate His Office

Members of Parliament have rejected a proposal to allocate additional funds for the renovation of offices used by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

The decision stops plans to spend more public money on refurbishing the leased premises currently occupied by his office.

The offices are located at the Kenya Railways Headquarters. Government officials had planned further renovation works, including partitioning and structural adjustments to the building. However, lawmakers declined to approve the extra budget that had been requested.

The move effectively halts the ongoing refurbishment activities that have taken place in the building over the past months.

Legislators argued that more funding was not necessary at a time when the government is under pressure to control public spending.

Several MPs raised concerns about the cost of renovating leased offices. They said spending large amounts of public money on a building that is not owned by the government raises serious questions about financial priorities.

The debate also came shortly after reports that the budget for the State House Nairobi had increased significantly in the 2025/26 financial year.

The allocation reportedly rose to about Sh16.998 billion after additional funds were added under budget provisions allowed by the constitution.
