What ODM Supporters Told Junet While Attacking Uhuru Kenyatta

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed on Thursday, February 12, launched a scathing attack on former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of backing a faction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to destabilise the party.

Speaking during a Linda Ground consultative meeting in Lamu, Junet alleged that the faction linked to Secretary General Edwin Sifuna was being used to push ODM into joining the United Opposition.

He then asked the gathering whether they would allow the party to align with Uhuru, to which they responded, “Hapana, hapana" in support of Junet.

Junet maintained that ODM would not return to opposition politics, arguing that Uhuru Kenyatta failed to secure victory for Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential election and therefore could not be trusted for any new political arrangement.

The Suna East MP urged the former Head of State to keep off ODM’s internal affairs, insisting that the party remains united and focused despite ongoing internal wrangles. He further advised Uhuru to either retire from politics or concentrate on supporting his preferred presidential candidate.

ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has also previously accused Mr Kenyatta of attempting to influence internal party positions, amid deepening divisions over ODM’s participation in the broad-based government arrangement.

Wanga reiterated that ODM would not revert to opposition politics, stating that the party’s current direction remains guided by its leader, Raila Odinga.
