Political commentator Wahome Thuku has made a bold prediction that could spell trouble for President William Ruto as the country edges closer to the next general election.
According to Thuku, several senior ODM figures currently serving in the broad based government are merely serving time and are quietly preparing to defect when the political moment is right.
Thuku specifically pointed to figures such as Opiyo Wandayi, suggesting that they are likely to complete their term in government before regrouping with Edwin Sifuna and his allies around mid next year.
He argued that the internal battles within ODM show clear signs of an impending realignment, driven by dissatisfaction with the broad based arrangement and growing pressure from the party’s grassroots.
The remarks come amid visible cracks within the Orange Democratic Movement, where divisions have deepened over cooperation with Ruto’s administration.
Thuku claimed that while some leaders publicly support the current setup, their political instincts and past behavior suggest they are already positioning themselves for an exit.
If the prediction proves accurate, it could significantly weaken Ruto’s efforts to maintain a stable cross party alliance, while strengthening the opposition bloc ahead of the elections.
The coming months may therefore determine whether ODM’s stay in the broad based government was a temporary arrangement or the beginning of a lasting political breakup.
