Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has accused senior government officials of orchestrating the alleged abduction of his brother-in-law, linking the incident to heightened political tensions surrounding ongoing public rallies across the country.
In a strongly worded statement, Owino claimed that the gatherings currently being held in various regions are citizen-driven and represent a constitutional expression of democratic rights.
He argued that such movements cannot be curtailed through intimidation, warning that any attempt to suppress them could deepen public mistrust in state institutions.
The legislator directly addressed Raymond Omolo, asserting that the rallies transcend individual political leaders and instead reflect broader public concerns.
According to Owino, security agencies should not be used to interfere with what he described as lawful civic engagement.
Owino alleged that officers believed to be attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations apprehended his relative earlier in the day under unclear circumstances.
He named an officer he claims was involved and demanded immediate disclosure of his brother-in-law’s whereabouts.
The MP further stated that the family has not received any official communication confirming the arrest, outlining the reasons for detention, or indicating where the individual is being held. He described the situation as distressing and called on authorities to uphold due process.
The allegations have fueled renewed debate over the conduct of security agencies during politically sensitive periods.
Owino urged transparency and adherence to legal procedures, emphasizing that families have a right to timely information whenever a person is taken into custody. Authorities had not publicly responded to the claims at the time of publication.
