Sweeping Changes in Parliament as MPs Wamuchomba, Kibagendi, Caroli Gets Dropped From Committees

In a session marked by high-stakes political maneuvering, the National Assembly has implemented sweeping leadership changes that have seen several high-profile legislators lose their influential committee roles.

The shake-up has sparked significant debate within the House, particularly regarding the removal of Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi among others.

The most contentious change involved the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC).

Caroli Omondi has been dropped both as a member and as the chairperson of this powerful body, replaced by Hon. Kamket Kassait who is the former Vice-Chair.

Protesting the move, Omondi has alleged a conspiracy between Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah and Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.

He has claimed his removal was a calculated attempt to block his oversight of upcoming general elections, warning that such a move could enable electoral manipulation.

Following the purge, Omondi has been reassigned to the less prominent Sports and Culture Committee.

The restructuring also affected other vocal critics of the current administration:

Gathoni Wamuchomba has been replaced by Hon. Teresia Wanjiru Mwangi on the Committee on Member Services and Facilities.

However, in a complex swap she was later added to the CIOC to replace Hon. Mwangi.

Anthony Kibagendi who is currently under indefinite suspension for disparaging remarks about the House and Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, Kibagendi has been removed from the influential Public Investments Committee (PIC) on Governance and Education.

He has been replaced by newly elected Kasipul MP Boyd Were Ong’ondo.

Speaker Wetang’ula has maintained that these changes follow proper parliamentary procedure, despite the affected members' claims of political targeting.

More changes are set to be announced by the house after the completion of various tablet reports and debates.

However, following the changes those who have been moved should now take interest on where they have been placed rather than why they have been removed.
