Something Cooking? Letoo Comes to the Rescue of Kilgoris Market Vendors with Umbrellas Amid Rain

Stephen Letoo, the senior political affairs journalist at Citizen TV, has been active in his home area of Enooretet in Kilgoris Constituency, Narok County. He recently visited local markets to support women traders affected by ongoing heavy rains.

This morning, Letoo distributed market umbrellas to businesswomen at Ogwedhi Market near the Kilgoris-Migori border and at Kilgoris Town Market.

The initiative is meant to provide immediate shelter from heavy downpours and harsh weather that disrupt daily trade. Many women rely on selling vegetables, fruits, and other goods to support their families.

Letoo shared the initiative on his Facebook page, highlighting the daily struggles of these women under sun and rain. He said his efforts, under the SLF framework, will continue beyond the current rainy season.

Plans include long-term support such as better shading, market stalls, and other protective measures to improve trading conditions.

The markets are vital for small-scale entrepreneurs in Kilgoris. Letoo’s support reflects his strong ties to his home constituency in Narok, a region dominated by the Maasai community.

His community work has sparked conversations online, with speculation that he may be preparing for a political role in the area.

Observers note that supporting grassroots initiatives like trader welfare is often part of building a local support base.

While Letoo has not confirmed any political ambitions, his acts of goodwill have drawn attention in a constituency where market infrastructure and trader protection remain pressing issues.

Narok County has made efforts to modernize markets, but heavy rains still pose challenges for open-air vendors.

Letoo’s initiative addresses immediate needs while signaling a potential focus on longer-term community development.

By combining national journalism with local engagement, Letoo is demonstrating a dual commitment to informing the public and assisting vulnerable groups.

Traders at the markets expressed gratitude for the umbrellas, saying it will make trading safer and more comfortable during harsh weather.

The effort underlines the importance of local action in regions affected by climate challenges. With continued support, Mama Mboga in Kilgoris may see improved conditions for business, resilience against flooding, and a stronger platform for sustaining their families through trade.
