Oburu Makes U-turn, Says What ODM Now Wants For Supporting Ruto's 2027 Bid

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Oburu Oginga has assured Deputy President Kithure Kindiki of his safety ahead of the 2027 general election.

Oburu has stated that his party is not interested in the DP slot, even as it enters into power sharing negotiations with Ruto on how to approach 2027.

The Siaya Senator has added that personally, he is also not looking to be Ruto's running mate as the President seeks a second term.

He has made it clear that all he wants for his party and community is the rightful share of the government, stressing on the need for them to get what they truly deserve for supporting Ruto's bid.

“We are not going to look for less. But, Deputy President, do not think that we want your seat or that we want to remove you from your position. You are our friend,” he said on Monday.

Oburu made the remarks in Kisumu County during the issuance of NYOTA funds, where he said his party won't take anything from anyone.

“As we negotiate, we are going to negotiate what our party and community deserve. We are going to negotiate fairly, and we are not going to take anybody’s share."

This comes as a major U-turn from the leader, who had initially noted that the party will take nothing less than the DP position.

His new stand means President Ruto still has a powerful position offer the populous Mt Kenya region, which heavily contributed to his first election in 2022.
