The Hulugho Primary School teacher was allegedly pulled out of his house and shot dead.
The family demanded justice, saying he had been threatened by a parent and had requested a transfer from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) without success.
Stephen had previously escaped another attack, with suspects allegedly warning they would return for him.
He was described as a diligent and disciplined teacher who notably transformed the school.
The late Stephen was laid to rest on February 6, 2026, in Mwingi, Makueni County.
Teachers from the area expressed desire to be transferred, citing safety concerns calling for employment of locals.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stated that the government dispatched police to restore peace, while Deputy Inspector-General Gilbert Masengeli visited the area, offering condolences and revealing an ongoing operation to investigate the incident.
