Residents of Nyachege village are struggling to come to terms with a shocking incident in which a man disguised as a schoolgirl gained entry into a home under false claims.
The suspect, identified as Kevin from Mongorisi, allegedly dressed in a high school uniform and pretended to be a stranded schoolgirl.
Believing the story, a Good Samaritan welcomed him into her home, offered him food and allowed him to spend the night, where he slept in her daughter's room.
According to locals, Kevin arrived in the village claiming he was stranded and had nowhere to sleep.
Margaret Moraa said that the boy claimed he was meant to join school that day but had arrived late and had nowhere to sleep and requested to be accommodated for the night.
The situation took a disturbing turn later in the night when the host family realised something was wrong.
While sleeping, the well-wishing daughter felt uncomfortable and raised an alarm.
Neighbours responded quickly and took the suspect to the chief's house in Nyachege.
Moraa added that the neighbours were the ones who brought Kevin to the chief’s home in Nyachege and that the chief then called the police, who arrested him.
Residents who gathered at the Chief's office expressed anger and fear.
Jane Moraa said that they strongly condemned the act of men pretending to be women by dressing like them and noted that such actions were unacceptable because they put children at risk of assault.
Community leaders revealed the suspect had previously been arrested in Keroka for a similar incident.
Police in Kisii County have taken over the case as investigations continue.
