"Have You Seen Him?" Concern as Jobless Nairobi Man Who Received Job Offers After Viral Post Goes Missing

A Nairobi man identified as Mutua has received multiple job offers and financial support after a deeply emotional video showing his struggles with unemployment and homelessness went viral across Kenyan social media platforms. 

His story has sparked nationwide sympathy and renewed conversations about the hardships facing jobless urban youth.

Mutua, a trained chef who previously worked in Nairobi’s hospitality sector, lost his job following an incident involving a relative he had recommended for employment.

Reports indicate the relative allegedly stole from their workplace, leading to both men being dismissed. The job loss triggered a chain of personal setbacks that strained Mutua’s marriage and eventually left him without stable housing or income.

In widely shared videos, Mutua is seen calling his mother while visibly distressed, explaining that he had endured months of joblessness and was planning to return to his rural home in Matuu with only a small packet of maize flour. 

His mother urged him to seek help from siblings in Nairobi, but he insisted on travelling home, saying he felt defeated and unwanted in the city. The emotional exchange touched many Kenyans, who praised his humility and the evident bond with his mother.

As the clips spread online, well wishers began searching for him to offer assistance. Members of the public and hospitality businesses expressed interest in employing him after learning of his culinary training and work experience. 

Among the offers reported were opportunities at hospitality establishments in Nairobi, while other supporters pledged financial contributions to help him restart his life.

However, concern later grew when Mutua reportedly went missing after well wishers assisted him with bus fare to travel home. Despite assurances that he would reach Matuu, his family later indicated he had not arrived, prompting anxiety among supporters who had been trying to connect him with employers. 

Additional job opportunities reportedly continued to emerge, including one in Nairobi’s Lavington area, but he remained unreachable.

His mother and relatives expressed gratitude to Kenyans who had shown compassion, even as they appealed for information about his whereabouts. 

The case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of unemployed workers in major cities, where sudden job loss can quickly escalate into homelessness and social isolation.

Mutua’s story illustrates both the harsh realities of economic insecurity and the power of collective goodwill. Many Kenyans continue to share his images and story online, hoping he will be found safe and able to access the opportunities that have arisen from his viral plea.
