Oburu Odinga Finally Makes Stand, Reveals Who Will Be Fronted for Presidential Bid in 2027 if ODM Goes Alone

Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has indicated that he would be the party’s choice for the presidency if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) decides to run independently in 2027

Speaking on January 9, 2026, he described the year as crucial for political negotiations and strategic decision-making.

Oburu outlined three potential paths for ODM ahead of the election: forming a strategic partnership with UDA, seeking coalitions with other parties, or running solo under the ODM banner.

He made it clear that in the event of a solo campaign, he would be the party’s presidential candidate.

“2026 is the year for negotiations. It’s either we are going to partner with UDA, any other party, or even go alone as ODM. If we are going alone as ODM, Oburu is the presidential candidate,” he stated.

The declaration positions Oburu as a leading figure in the party and signals ODM’s willingness to assert its independence rather than relying on alliances.

Analysts suggest this move could also serve to increase ODM’s leverage during ongoing coalition talks.

Oburu’s remarks have sparked debate among political observers and party supporters, with many praising his bold stance while some question the feasibility of ODM running a solo campaign.

The announcement underscores the party’s strategic planning as it navigates the complex political landscape leading up to 2027.

As ODM charts its path, Oburu’s positioning as a potential presidential candidate highlights the party’s intent to play a central role in shaping the next election.

The comments also signal to allies and opponents alike that ODM is prepared to take a leadership role in the upcoming electoral cycle.

The senator’s statement has reignited discussions on political alignments and the possible scenarios that could define Kenya’s 2027 elections.

ODM supporters are watching closely as the party finalizes its strategy for the coming years.
