Justina Wamae Warns of ODM Self-Destruction Amid Party Disputes Post-Raila Odinga era

Former Roots Party presidential running mate Justina Wamae has raised fresh concerns about the internal state of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), warning that deliberate attempts to weaken party leadership could push it toward self-destruction.

In a statement shared on X on Friday, January 2, 2026, Wamae suggested that the party is being steered into chaos through calculated political manoeuvres, drawing parallels with events following the 2022 General Election.

“The game plan was to plant the weakest ODM party leader, similar to what happened with Jubilee after 2022,” Wamae wrote.

Wamae’s remarks come amid growing public disagreements within ODM, including factional rivalries and increasing unease among supporters about the party’s direction in the post-Raila Odinga era. 

She argued that when leadership is compromised, internal competition and personal ambition replace collective purpose, leading to division and endless power struggles.

“This enables self-destruction, manipulation, division, and endless fights among those who are greedy for the tokens available,” she added,.

Despite the sharp criticism, Wamae distanced herself from the ongoing infighting, stating that she is not personally involved in the internal disputes. “Lakini hainihusu,” she wrote, indicating that the internal battles do not concern her directly.

The comments come as ODM leader Oburu Oginga has clarified his position regarding the party’s presidential candidacy ahead of the 2027 General Election. 

In a New Year address, Oburu reaffirmed that, according to the party constitution, the leader automatically becomes ODM’s presidential candidate if the party chooses to contest the election independently.

“If we are going it alone, I want to make it absolutely clear that our constitution already has a presidential candidate for our party. That candidate is the party leader,” Oburu stated.

Oburu warned that party members with separate presidential ambitions should seek alternative political platforms. 

“Anybody preparing to go for presidential elections within ODM is misplaced. If they want to contest, they should look for another party because the candidate has already been decided,” he said.
