Wetangula, speaking on Tuesday at Lumakanda Township Primary School in Lugari Constituency during Jirongo’s funeral, described the late politician as a close ally and friend of over 38 years.
He highlighted the importance of clarity and accountability surrounding the circumstances of Jirongo’s untimely death.
“Today, alongside other leaders including Kenya’s fourth President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, we joined family, friends, and acquaintances in paying our final respects to Hon. Cyrus Jirongo. It is only right that we demand clear answers on his death,” Wetangula said.
He urged investigators to act swiftly, ensure transparency, and communicate findings to dispel doubts that have sparked national concern.
The Speaker also reflected on the legacy of Jirongo, noting the late MP’s dedication to unity within the Luhya community.
“A key lesson from Jirongo’s passing is the urgent need for cohesion among our people, a cause he championed throughout his political life,” he remarked.
The funeral drew top political figures from across the country, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, CS Wycliffe Oparanya, Opposition Leader Hon. Martha Karua, and governors led by host H.E. Fernandes Barasa.
Members of Parliament and county assembly officials were also in attendance, joining thousands of mourners who paid tribute to the late legislator.
Wetangula emphasized that beyond mourning, leaders have a responsibility to ensure justice and closure for Jirongo’s family, colleagues, and supporters.
He called on detectives to work with urgency and integrity, stressing that the nation deserves clarity on the circumstances that led to the loss of the former Cabinet Minister and longtime political figure.
