RIP: What Was Captured Coming Out Of Jirongo’s Car Immediately After The Fatal Accident

Investigators have released new details from surveillance footage showing the moments immediately after the crash that claimed the life of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Jirongo was driving a Mercedes-Benz when it collided with a speeding passenger bus headed to Busia.

CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station captured the final movements of the vehicle shortly before impact.

The footage shows Jirongo driving into the station from the Nairobi direction and passing the fuel pumps without stopping.

Seconds later the car exited the station and attempted to rejoin the highway before moving into the path of oncoming traffic.

Moments later the bus struck the vehicle with great force, dragging it several metres from the point of collision.

Cameras and eyewitness accounts recorded smoke rising from the wreckage almost immediately.

There was no visible movement inside the car, an observation that suggested the occupant had died on the spot.

The bus eventually stopped some distance away as other vehicles began slowing near the scene.

First responders rushed in after hearing the crash and attempted to access the vehicle but found the doors jammed.

They later forced entry and confirmed the driver was alone and unresponsive.

Authorities later identified him as Cyrus Jirongo.

Further checks revealed that the Mercedes-Benz involved was registered to a Nairobi-based car import company and not directly in Jirongo’s name, a detail now under review by investigators.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations continues to analyse the footage and witness accounts as questions linger over the circumstances surrounding the tragic crash that ended the life of the former legislator.
