Rachel Adhiambo had travelled from Kisumu on Friday night after attending her graduation ceremony at Kabarak University in Nakuru.
Full of anticipation she set out to reunite with her family but never reached her destination.
Reports indicate that Rachel arrived at Bondo late that night and boarded a motorcycle taxi to take her home a journey of about thirty kilometres.
Her sister Marine Atieno had cautioned her against travelling at night and urged her to wait for relatives who were already on the way to pick her up.
Rachel however suggested that they meet at Usenge town.
When Marine reached Usenge she could not find her sister.
A subsequent phone call connected briefly with Rachel who explained that the motorcycle had run out of fuel and that they were stranded on a rough road.
The explanation immediately raised concern as the location described did not match the main highway route.
Fearing the worst the family began searching for her the following morning. Rachel’s husband travelled from Vihiga and went to Bondo Hospital seeking information.
Later that day police contacted the family with devastating news.
Rachel’s body was found dumped by the roadside about two hundred metres from the Usenge Bondo highway.
Preliminary reports indicated that she had been sexually assaulted robbed of her belongings and murdered.
Her phone and personal items were missing.
Rachel Adhiambo was a mother of two and served as a legal officer with the Vihiga County Government.
Her death has left her family and community in mourning as investigations continue.
