Chui Mkali: Ohangla Musician Javan Mc Ajudo Involved in Tragic Road Crash with Boda, Rider Dies in Kisumu

Kisumu—Popular Luo ohangla musician Javan Mc Ajudo, also known as Chui Mkali, is counting his blessings after surviving a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a boda boda rider in Nyakach, Kisumu County.

The fatal crash occurred on Friday evening, December 26, at Harambee Market area. 

According to witnesses, the singer’s vehicle knocked down a boda boda rider, killing him instantly before veering off the road and landing in a nearby ditch.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the car was being driven at high speed at the time of the accident.

Some residents at the scene claimed the occupants of the vehicle appeared intoxicated, raising fresh concerns about reckless driving during the festive season.

“The car hit the rider head-on and dragged him before losing control,” said one witness.

“It travelled for about 200 metres after the impact before sliding into a ditch. People inside the car looked shaken and confused.”

Photos shared online showed extensive damage to the front section of the vehicle. Disturbing images from the scene also revealed that the boda boda rider suffered severe injuries due to the impact.

A crate containing bottles of alcohol was reportedly recovered from the boot of the car, further fuelling speculation that alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

The vehicle was said to be carrying four people—three men and a woman—at the time of the accident. None of the occupants sustained life-threatening injuries.

Angry residents initially attempted to confront those inside the car, with some calling for the vehicle to be set ablaze.

However, cooler heads prevailed after a section of the crowd intervened and prevented violence from breaking out.

News of the accident sparked strong reactions online, with many Kenyans expressing outrage and sorrow over the loss of the boda boda rider’s life.

Several commenters condemned drunk driving, while others called for those responsible to face the full force of the law.

“This is a hardworking man whose life ended because of carelessness,” wrote one social media user. 

Another added, “If you drink, don’t drive. Innocent lives are being lost unnecessarily.”

Police are yet to release an official statement on the incident, but investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the crash and whether alcohol was involved.

The tragedy comes amid growing concern over road accidents linked to speeding and drunk driving, especially during holiday periods when traffic volumes increase across the country.
