Heartbreaking images of a young medical couple who tragically lost their lives in a road accident just days after their wedding have surfaced, capturing the attention of many across Zimbabwe.
Dr. Goodnow Tanaka Machadu and his wife, Sakhile, were involved in a fatal crash on Christmas Day, leaving behind their young children amid tremendous loss.
The couple's photos, showcasing their happiness and love for each other, have gone viral on social media.
Friends, family, and community members have taken to the internet to express their grief and share heartfelt messages of condolence.
Many people are particularly concerned for their children, who are now facing a life without their parents.
Witnesses at the accident scene reportedly described how the couple's car was severely damaged and ended up wrapped around a tree, suggesting that speeding may have been a factor.
However, some have urged caution in drawing conclusions without further information, especially during such a sensitive time impacting their families.
Dr. Machadu was a valued medical doctor who earned his degree from the University of Zimbabwe.
His wife, Sakhile, was a skilled pharmacist also educated at the University of Zimbabwe and the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
The couple completed their studies around 2013 and had been together since 2012. They married in 2016, and while the exact number of their children is unknown, it is clear they were a close-knit family.
Dr. Machadu had a successful career, working for the Ministry of Health and the Bulawayo Medical Group before co-founding Lady Coletta Private Hospital in Plumtree, located in Matabeleland South province.
Through his work with Meds Incorporated, he made significant strides in improving healthcare in the region.
Lady Coletta Hospital arose from efforts made during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide essential screening and diagnostic services to the community.
In a local media interview earlier this year, Dr. Machadu reflected on the hospital's mission, saying, "We realized Plumtree needed more than just emergency testing.
We saw an opportunity to create a sustainable healthcare system that benefited the community."
Lady Coletta Hospital now offers a variety of services, including primary healthcare, sonography, X-ray, dental care, and reliable pharmaceutical services through Meds24.
Dr. Machadu had ambitious plans to expand the hospital, aiming to turn it into a multidisciplinary center that would attract patients from both Zimbabwe and neighboring countries.
