"At Ksh 1 Billion" Junet Claims Some Officials In ODM Want To Auction Party Uhuru Kenyatta

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) continues to grapple with internal divisions following the death of its long-serving leader, Raila Odinga, in October 2025.

Allegations of betrayal and self-serving deals have emerged, highlighting tensions among senior party officials as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has accused some ODM colleagues of secretly courting former President Uhuru Kenyatta, offering promises of political funding for 2027, while attempting to undermine the party’s existing alignment with the government.

Speaking to supporters in his constituency on December 24, Junet dismissed such maneuvers as futile and warned that ODM must remain in the broad-based government arrangement left by Raila.

According to Junet, he was recently approached by a senior party official who allegedly sought to convince him to abandon the faction supporting President William Ruto and join an opposition coalition backed by Uhuru.

The official reportedly promised that Uhuru was ready to invest one billion shillings to strengthen the party politically ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I was invited to a meeting in Kisumu by someone opposed to the broad-based government. They told me their plan was to unite in opposition with support from former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is ready to invest heavily for 2027. I turned down the proposal because Uhuru’s time as president showed the limits of what he could offer,” Junet said.

Junet argued that the late Raila’s defeat in the 2022 presidential election, despite Uhuru’s backing, proves the futility of relying on the former president’s support.

He accused the insider of criticizing pro-Ruto party members while secretly pursuing unviable deals with Uhuru.

Junet reaffirmed his commitment to ODM’s alignment with the broad-based government.

“We are in the government out of our own volition. We will not leave ODM or the broad-based government, and we won’t be intimidated. If anyone is dissatisfied, they can leave and form their own party,” he declared.

He specifically targeted Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, accusing him of lacking authority to determine the party’s direction.

Junet noted that Osotsi joined ODM only recently after previously being with ANC and should not lecture long-standing party members about loyalty or strategy.

“Some have been in ODM less than three years, while others of us have grown under Raila Odinga’s leadership. They cannot dictate the path for the party. We are here to stay in the broad-based government,” Junet stated.
