Source Reveals Ruto's Reaction to Uhuru's Recent Move of Endorsing Matiang'i as Jubilee Flag bearer

Fresh reports have emerged revealing how President William Ruto has allegedly reacted to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to endorse ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as the Jubilee Party’s presidential candidate in the next general election.

According to Tuesday’s People Daily publication, insiders claim that President Ruto has been keenly monitoring the unfolding political realignments within the Mt. Kenya region — particularly those spearheaded by his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.

The report suggests that Ruto views Uhuru’s latest move as an attempt to reassert his influence in national politics and challenge the dominance of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of 2027.

Uhuru’s decision to back Matiang’i reportedly took many by surprise, including some within the Jubilee Party, which has been struggling to regain its footing since its 2022 electoral defeat.

Sources quoted by People Daily say that the former Head of State believes Matiang’i represents a “fresh, disciplined, and technocratic leadership style” that could appeal to voters disillusioned with the current administration.

In response, President Ruto is said to have adopted a calculated political strategy aimed at consolidating his power base while discrediting both former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and emerging opposition figures who might rally behind Uhuru’s camp.

Insiders reveal that Ruto’s close allies have already begun countering Uhuru’s narrative in Mt. Kenya, describing it as a “desperate comeback by failed leaders.”

“The President is aware of every political move happening in Mt. Kenya and beyond,” a senior UDA insider reportedly told People Daily.

“His plan is not just to win re-election but to completely dismantle the influence of those who once betrayed him — including Gachagua and Uhuru.”

Political analysts, however, note that Uhuru’s endorsement of Matiang’i could potentially reshape alliances across the country.

Matiang’i, who served as one of the most powerful ministers in Uhuru’s administration, commands significant respect in parts of the Gusii region and among sections of the civil service and clergy.

His entry into the 2027 race under the Jubilee ticket could therefore present an interesting challenge to both Kenya Kwanza and ODM successors.

The report further indicates that President Ruto’s team has shifted focus toward Western Kenya and Luo Nyanza, regions that have become politically fluid following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Ruto is reportedly working to fill the vacuum left by Raila by appealing to moderate leaders from the opposition and offering development-based partnerships to win over skeptical voters.

Observers believe the unfolding developments set the stage for an intense political contest as new alliances emerge and old rivalries reignite.

While Uhuru’s political influence has waned since leaving office, his endorsement of Matiang’i could re-energize his supporters and complicate Ruto’s re-election matrix.
