“Raila Did Not Know The People He Was Dealing With” — Kalonzo Blasts Some ODM Leaders Over This

Former Vice President and Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has claimed that four Cabinet Secretaries from Raila Odinga’s ODM party joined President William Ruto’s government without the ex-premier’s knowledge.

He said the move happened before a national convention could decide on party representation in the Cabinet.

Kalonzo explained that Ruto approached the officials individually, convincing them to take up top government positions while Raila was unaware of the negotiations. This, he said, left Raila and the party leadership blindsided.

According to Musyoka, the Cabinet Secretaries involved acted as “experts” but bypassed party protocol, ignoring ODM’s internal mechanisms for decision-making. He emphasized that this demonstrated a lack of loyalty to the party’s leadership.

He said that when Raila attempted to organize a national convention to address the matter, the officials had already committed to joining Ruto’s government. This, he argued, undermined the party’s unity and Raila’s authority.

Kalonzo noted that the timing of the defections coincided with a period when President Ruto was under pressure following protests by Gen Z activists. He suggested that Ruto used the political tension to his advantage to secure the officials’ positions.

The Wiper leader said that such moves reflected poorly on ODM’s internal cohesion and questioned the judgment of party leadership in trusting certain members.

He stated that Raila was unaware of the true intentions of these Cabinet Secretaries.

Kalonzo concluded that the actions of the officials highlighted a broader challenge within political parties, where individual ambitions can sometimes override collective decisions.

He stressed that this incident served as a lesson on ensuring proper consultation and loyalty within party ranks.

This revelation has stirred debates about party loyalty and the role of personal ambition in Kenyan politics. Observers say the matter could have lasting implications for ODM’s cohesion ahead of future elections.
