Abduba Dida Reappears With New Venture Months After Release From U.S. Prison

Former Kenyan presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has returned to the public spotlight with a completely new mission, several months after walking out of an Illinois correctional facility where he had served part of a seven-year sentence.

Dida, known during his political peak for his sharp humour and unpredictable, often philosophical campaign style, is now presenting himself as a spiritual mentor and podcaster with a global vision.

A video that circulated widely on Sunday showed the 50-year-old speaking from his current base in Minnesota, where he has been living since his release on parole in April 2025.

Calm and reflective, Dida revealed that he is rebuilding a charity organisation he had registered in 2017 and is actively looking for office space to relaunch its activities.

According to him, the episode he went through in the United States has reshaped his purpose and deepened his belief that people across the world need guidance and spiritual grounding.

His new online accounts describe the initiative as an international outreach project meant to connect with audiences seeking clarity, comfort and direction.

In the viral video, Dida delivered a long message directed specifically to Kenyans. He urged citizens to move beyond partisan fights and identity politics and instead focus on shared humanity.

“Dear Kenyans, I want to take this opportunity to speak directly to you,” he said.

“God created us to represent Him on this earth. We have a big responsibility. There are more than eight billion people who need spiritual nourishment, who need awakening. That is work one person cannot do alone. I ask you to rise above tribe and religion and think of the world. Walk with me—we have a lot to share.”

Dida’s public reappearance comes after years of silence following his July 2021 conviction in the United States.

Court records indicated that he had been found guilty of stalking, transmitting threats, aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order linked to his estranged wife.

The case, which drew limited attention at the time, was a turning point in the life of a man who once shared a national stage with Kenya’s top political contenders.

Family members later claimed that Dida unintentionally violated the restraining order when he visited a prayer centre located near the home of his estranged spouse.

According to his relatives, he had not been aware that the location fell under the restricted zone as defined under American law. The visit, however, was considered a breach, resulting in his imprisonment at the Big Muddy Correctional Centre in Illinois.

After completing three years behind bars, Dida was paroled in April 2025 and permitted to live outside prison while serving the remainder of his sentence, which is officially scheduled to end in April 2029. Since then, he has kept a low profile, resurfacing only occasionally online before launching the latest spiritual initiative.

Before moving to the United States in 2019, Dida was widely known in Kenya for his outspoken nature and satirical commentary during political debates. Born in Wajir, he built a public image rooted in simplicity, bold truth-telling and an unconventional approach to politics.

His campaigns attracted attention for their humour and sharp observations about governance, society and leadership.

His relocation to America was initially meant for further studies. While there, he met and married an American citizen. The marriage later ran into difficulties, and disagreements escalated into the conflict that eventually pulled him into the criminal justice system.

Today, Dida’s focus appears to have shifted entirely. He speaks of healing, reconciliation and purpose, portraying himself not as a politician but as a teacher hoping to guide people spiritually.

His new podcasting platform, still in its early stages, is expected to feature teachings, reflections and global outreach messaging.
