A well-known political figure in Kisii has sparked fresh debate after making bold predictions about the 2027 General Election.
Sylvanus Osoro, who is remembered for confidently predicting President William Ruto’s victory in 2022, has now turned his attention to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Speaking during a public event in Kisii County, Osoro said that Matiang’i should prepare for a difficult political future.
According to him, the political ground in Kisii has shifted, and the former CS should not expect automatic support from the community.
Osoro maintained that even though Matiang’i has been a respected leader in the region for many years, the 2027 political environment will be very different.
Osoro claimed that residents of Kisii are more focused on leaders who can connect with them at the grassroots level.
He argued that the days of relying purely on national influence or past government positions are gone.
According to him, people now want leaders who stay close to the community, attend to local problems, and speak openly about development challenges.
He went ahead to say that Matiang’i’s name alone will not guarantee him votes in 2027.
Osoro insisted that the community will choose leaders based on what they see on the ground, not on past glory.
He added that many young people in Kisii feel disconnected from leaders who have been away from active local politics for a long time, and this might work against Matiang’i if he decides to run for office.
His remarks have spread quickly across Kisii and beyond, with some residents agreeing while others strongly disagree.
Those who support Osoro argue that the political space in Kisii has changed and new leaders have gained influence.
Others believe Matiang’i still commands strong support and will remain a key figure in future elections.
