Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, November 7, cracked up the crowd during a Jubilee Party grassroots leaders' meeting held at Thika Greens Resort in Murang’a County.
Addressing the gathering, Uhuru urged Jubilee members to conduct peaceful campaigns and avoid using insults against their political rivals.
He humorously admitted that he once used harsh language in politics before changing his approach.
“Hata mimi nilikuwa na matusi,” Uhuru said, sending the audience into laughter.
He went on to recall his decision to work with the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga despite being one of his fiercest critics at the time.
Without mentioning names, Uhuru appeared to take a subtle jab at President William Ruto for opposing his handshake with Raila igniting cheers from the audience.
Uhuru reiterated that the handshake was meant to unite the country and not to advance personal interests, urging Jubilee leaders to emulate the same spirit of unity as they pursue political seats.
The meeting was attended by former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, former CAS Zack Kinuthia, and former Kajiado North MP Joseph Manje, among other party officials.
