Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba is facing backlash after her remarks on the death of Sammy Wa Ng’ang’a, an employee of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
Sammy reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack while receiving treatment at Igegania Hospital in Gatundu North.
The controversy began when Wamuchomba shared Sammy’s photo on her Facebook page, accompanied by a condolence message that many have described as insensitive.
Critics accuse her of mocking the deceased in order to push a political agenda targeting Kiambu’s health sector.
Wamuchomba has been among the vocal Kiambu leaders criticizing Governor Wamatangi over alleged failures in health service delivery.
In her post, she claimed that Sammy died while “defending a failed health system,” words that many say trivialized the pain of his family and turned a tragedy into a political tool.
Sammy was a staff member at the Wamatangi Foundation, which has been running community projects such as water tank donations, free transport services, and computer training.
Friends and supporters remembered him as a dedicated individual who worked to uplift others.
Her post quickly drew angry reactions. Hiram Hiram commented that the message had nothing to do with condoling with the family but everything to do with celebrating the death of someone who supported the governor.
Another Facebook user, Kinuthia Wa Kibichoi, told Wamuchomba, “This is not right from a leader like you. Stop playing politics with death. Everyone has their time, and no one can prevent it. Even you are yet to fully deliver to your Githunguri constituents.”
The incident has sparked a wider debate on the ethics of political leaders and the limits they should observe when engaging in public discourse.
