UDA to Sanction Khalwale for Supporting Rival Candidate In Malava

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has demanded an explanation from Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale after he was seen supporting a rival candidate in the upcoming Malava parliamentary by-election.

According to sources within the party, the disciplinary committee has written to Khalwale asking him to show cause why action should not be taken against him for openly backing Seth Panyako, a candidate from the DAP-K party.

This move has caused tension in UDA, especially since the party already nominated its own candidate, David Ndakwa.

In a letter said to be circulating among senior UDA officials, the party accused Khalwale of engaging in political activities and public utterances that go against UDA’s principles.

The committee noted that his support for a candidate from another political outfit undermines the unity and image of the ruling party.

The Senator has been given 14 days to respond and explain his actions before the committee decides on possible disciplinary measures.

He has also been advised that he can appear in person or be represented by a lawyer during the hearing.

Khalwale, popularly known as “The Bullfighter,” has not denied supporting Seth Panyako.

He argues that his decision was guided by fairness and respect for the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi’s family. Khalwale claimed that the party ignored Malulu’s son, Ryan Injendi, who had expressed interest in the seat.

“When Malulu passed away, other leaders who died around the same time had their family members supported by the government. For instance, Cheptumo’s widow and Dalmas Otieno’s wife were both helped. But Malulu’s family was forgotten. That’s why I stood with Ryan and those close to him,” Khalwale explained.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions across Kakamega County, with some locals supporting his stand while others accuse him of betrayal.

Party loyalists insist that discipline must be maintained within UDA ranks, especially as the 2027 elections approach.
